Joy riders have caused serious weekend damage to the outfield at Hartley Wintney’s historic Cricket Green.
It is believed a 4 x 4 vehicle drove on to the outfield at around 0330 hours Monday, circling the cricket square and leaving deep tyre tracks in the mud.
“The club is devastated,” said a Hartley Wintney spokesman. “We had spent a lot of money in the immediate close season trying to upgrade the surface and now this happens. We are unsure if this was a deliberate and targeted attack, but anyone who can provide any information is invited to contact the local police or let one of the club officials know.”
Hartley Wintney are appealing to anyone who has any spare time – and a rake – to pop along to the club as they begin the process of making good the damage to the cricket outfield.
