Ventnor cricket manager Fiona Newnham is no stranger to multi-tasking - but her scoring and travel schedule from this past weekend makes breathtaking reading ...
Besides scoring (alongside doing the admin and paper work) for the island's Southern Premier League club, Fiona is Hampshire's official notcher, a position she's held and enjoyed since the start of the 2023 season.
This weekend saw Fiona drive to the west country to score Hampshire's Vitality Blast T20 match against Gloucestershire in Bristol on Friday evening and then Somerset at Taunton on Sunday afternoon.
No staying with the team. On her Saturday 'day off' she drove back to Southsea to do the books for Ventnor's league match against Portsmouth !
This is how Fiona's weekend panned out -
Friday
0730: Caught the Red Funnel car ferry from East Cowes to the mainland and drove 75 miles to Bristol for the T20 Blast, via two meetings (Portishead & city docks). Stayed with the team in Bristol overnight.
Saturday
0800: Left the team hotel and drove 130 miles to Southsea for 12:30 start, collecting Ventnor's kit bags from Hoverport en route.
The Red Arrows flew across (saluting my efforts ?), starting in 49th over of Ventnor's innings!!
1900: Evening journey along A303 to Taunton (another 130 miles), before meeting up with my Hampshire colleagues to catch up on their 'day off'.
Sunday
Fitted in a visit to Taunton Minster for the 10:00 service, then off to County Ground for the 2.30pm T20. Evening journey back to Utilita Bowl and another hotel stay.
Monday: Breakfast meeting, followed by Rose Bowl catch up, midday meeting nearly and AN afternoon drive to London Heathrow T4 to collect a new Ventnor Australian cricketer Brett Hassett, who arrived from Perth to play for the Steephill club's island team.
Back home by Monday evening to cook supper .. then sleep !!
