Hampshire have let Ventnor-raised Danny Briggs leave for Sussex with a year remaining on his contract.
The 24-year old progressed from Ventnor through Hampshire’s junior and academy sides before excelling in all formats. Briggs has taken more T20 wickets than any other English spinner and in 2011, aged 20, became the youngest English spinner to take 100 first-class wickets since Derek Underwood. Fittingly enough, he reached the milestone in an LV County Championship match against Sussex at Hove. But he did not play in Hampshire’s last five LV County Championship games after slipping behind Liam Dawson, Mason Crane - and Brad Taylor - in the four-day pecking order.
He said: “I'm really grateful that Hampshire are letting me leave early, I'd like to thank all players and coaches at the club for all their support over the years. I'm looking forward to joining Sussex and working with the players and coaching staff there. I'm excited for the opportunities that lie ahead.”
