Ventnor suffered a third successive Southern Premier Division 1 defeat on mainland soil when winless New Milton beat them by four runs in a relatively low scoring affair at Fernhill.
They appeared to have matters under control when spin duo Dinesh Thimodya (4-32) and Ben Attrill (3-31) reduced the Green & Golds to 123-8, but a gallant late recovery by Lewis Naylor (24) and Lithan Lanbscher (14) lifted New Milton to what proved a competitive 166 all out.
Ventnor eased their reply to 80-2, but a three-wicket blast by Alfie Hussey (3-19), who dismissed Tom Friend (35), Zeph Wells (23) and Martin Blackman knocked them off course. Alex Lloyd, making a rare appearance, hit 44*, but lost a host of partners as the islanders gradually subsided to 162 all out.
