VILLAGE CUP: CALMORE SPORTS FACE THEIR BIGGEST TEST YET

Calmore Sports face their toughest test yet in the Voneus Village Cup when they entertain past Lord’s winners Goatacre in the ‘round of 16’ at Loperwood Park on Sunday, 1pm.
The Wiltshire club, which lifted the 50-year old trophy under the gaze of Old Father Time in 1988 and again two seasons later, are currently top of the West of England Premier Division 1 table, with six wins from nine outings.
Opener Jack Haines blazed 148 last weekend for Goatacre, who are captained by Brad Dawson, sibling brother of Hampshire all-rounder Liam Dawson, whose father Andy played in the 1990 Lord’s triumph.
Calmore’s route to the last 16 has been tension packed in the extreme, with thrilling last over finishes against Paultons, Sparsholt and in the last round Cookham Dean.
Continuity has been the key to Calmore’s success with Mark Lavelle able to lead an unchanged side in every round.
Calmore Sports: Lavelle, Bailey, Brewster, Perry, West, Wright, Manning, Johns, Johnson, Taylor, Lepervanche.
Goatacre: Dawson, Ewen Kenny, Jif Wilkins, Turner, Bennett-Thomas, Ed Wilkins, Haines, Twine,  Miles, Horton, Wiseman.
Admission to Sunday’s tie is free. There will be a licensed bar and hot food on tap.
