Sparsholt are out of the Watson’s National Village Championship after having their top order blown to pieces by Liphook & Ripsley pace all-rounder Suman Ganguly.
They lost the Hampshire county final at Ripsley Park by 46 runs – the tie being all but done and dusted in 15 devastating minutes after the tea interval.
With a powerful total of 197-8 behind him, Ganguly (4-22) ripped through Sparsholt’s top order, clean bowling three batsmen in quick succession to leave the visitors’ reply in ruin at 22-5.
As Liphook took their foot off the pedal, so Dave Banks (29), Greg Whiting (29) and particularly teenager Nick Doubell (46), hobbling with a knee injury, lifted Sparsholt’s spirits.  They closed at 151 all out.
Sparsholt paid the price for dropping Rob Nicklin at slip second ball – the Liphook opener going on to hit 73 (three sixes and four fours) and enjoy a platform providing 57-run start with Ganguly (36).
George Neave (22) and Toby Flack (19) took Liphook on to 197-8 – and eventually towards a home tie with Gloucestershire’s Rockhampton, a recent Lord’s finalist, in the opening national round on June 25.
