Teenage left-arm spinner Oscar Amis returned a best yet spell of 6-21 to bowl Liphook & Ripsley to a six-wicket win over Findon and into the national rounds of the Village Cup.
The 17-year old, who joined Liphook from Petersfield two seasons ago, removed Findon’s two principal batsmen George Bridson (29) and opener Matt Glover (22) alongside four other victims.
The West Sussex club lost wickets all the way through their innings, two falling with their score at 68 and four more at 80 – two of them to Sean Burton (2-16) – before Amis [pictured] grabbed the tenth and his sixth of the innings to leave Findon 84 all out. Their last five wickets fell for only four runs.
Liphook took a relatively care-free approach to polishing off the target, losing four wickets in the process. Harry Munt made 22 and Jonathon Pryce 17 not out.
Liphook, beaten Lord’s finalists two seasons ago, look to face a far tougher assignment in the opening round next Sunday when they travel to the outskirts of Slough to play Thames Valley League club Stoke Green.
The Buckinghamshire champions won their county title by beating Bledlow Village, having racked up an enormous 418-5 against Dinton in the previous round.
