Waterlooville have seized the British Gas Southern League Division 3 leadership with two matches to go.
They nicked top spot with an eight-wicket win over Fawley, which coincided with Bashley (Rydal) bowling Basingstoke & North Hants off top spot.
The Ville take a five-point lead into their home match with relegated Hursley Park, but if Basingstoke beat Fawley on Saturday, the pair will go head-to-head for the title at May’s Bounty on September 2.
A round 17 win for the top two would secure promotion to Division 2 next season.
Chris Vaughan (76), Tom Gates (64) and George Pardoe (59) all made half-centuries as Bashley made 248 to out-score Basingstoke (226-8) by 22 runs.
Scott Dyer (52), Keith Harsham (40), Matt Deadman (38) and Cal Coombs (37) responded for BNH, with Ross Grierson taking 3-39.
Waterlooville chased down Fawley’s 175-8 (Callum Earl 82) to win by eight wickets, openers James Scutt (82) and Tasmanian James Hortle (33) providing an ideal start.
Fair Oak gave their relegation fears a lift by inflicting a two-wicket defeat on Hursley Park (133-9), who will play Hampshire League cricket in 2018..
Alton II (140) lie 11 points adrift of safety after an eight-wicket loss to Gosport Borough, for whom Mike Ruffell (62) and Lee Harrop (61) made runs.
