BASHLEY Rydal) and Lymington will be looking to frank their title credentials when they duel for the New Forest bragging rights today (11am).
Second-placed Lymington, whose last win against Bashley in the British Gas Southern Premier League came in July 2011, arrive at the BCG on the back of a crushing Dom Hand inspired 181-run victory over Alton seven days ago.
Bashley, meanwhile, have slipped to fourth after suffering successive defeats at the hands of Burridge and Havant, having been skittled for just 97 and 106, respectively.
The reverse fixture in May saw Ed Ellis finish on the losing side despite cracking a second consecutive century for Lymington against Bashley.
His efforts were eclipsed by those of South Australian Pat Page, whose sparkling 115 guided Bashley to a comfortable six-wicket victory.
With leaders South Wilts on a five-match winning run, both Bashley and Lymington will be desperate for the points in order to maintain their respective challenges.
Victory for Lymington would also see them steal a march in the race for the Time pennant – with Bashley the recipients of the award last season.
Hand will go into the Kings of the Forest derby confident after his maiden Premier Division century in Lymington’s win over Alton, who go to South Wilts today.
His 106 wasn’t his first Southern League century – he made 116 against Basingstoke & North Hants II in an SPL3 match in 2015, when he went on to make first team scores of 86 against Burridge and 90 against Alton.
Hand has been consistent in support roles this season, with a solitary 55 against Burridge and four 40-plus scores prior to last weekend’s hundred.
Leaders South Wilts look to exploit Alton’s batting frailties and strengthen their position at the top of the ECB British Gas Southern Premier League when the Brewers visit Bemerton, 11am.
Whereas South Wilts are in a purple patch after four straight Time pennant wins, Alton look to put their batting card back together after a disastrous collapse at Lymington last week.
They lost their last six wickets for seven runs – and the match by a staggering 181 runs !
But South Wilts skipper is warning his table topping side about over-complacency.
“Havant are the side we always have the big battles against, but Alton are competitive and, over the years, have beaten us a few times,” he warned.
In-form left-hand opener Tom Cowley, pictured repainting the creases, misses the match due to work commitments at the Ageas Bowl, so South Wilts call on the experience of Joe Cranch.
Also absent is left-hand spin all-rounder Sam Arnold, who produced two encouraging performances after he came back from Loughborough University.
“Sam wrenched his knee in a fun kick-about with his mates and is awaiting the result of a scan,” Hibberd added.
“It’s a great pity because he was looking good with the bat and gave us a handy spin option.
