Hursley Park’s Ian Watson hit an unbeaten 34 but was unable to spare England’s Golden Oldie cricketers a 14-run defeat against their Australian compatriots in the opening Over-70s ‘Ashes’ Test at the Tea Tree Gully ground in Adelaide.
Batting seven, Watson arrived at the crease with England 125-5 in response to Australia’s 197-7 in 50 overs. He held the lower order together well, but England finished short at 183-8. Earlier, opener Mike Swain was bowled for four and Chichester Priory Park’s Andy Barnes made 21.
