HAMPSHIRE YCs face a ‘must win’ showdown with Devon at Seaton on Sunday (11am) in order to progress to the knockout phase of the ECB Under-17 50-over Cup.
They have managed to complete only one of their three south-west group matches so far, beating Worcestershire by 75 runs at Kidderminster, where Longparish teen Billy Mead hit 110.
The other two games with Gloucestershire and Somerset were abandoned – with Hampshire’s youngsters in the driving seat.
They fancied their chances of beating Gloucestershire after dismissing their opponents for 150, while Felix Organ (58), who made 93 against Worcestershire, and Miles Kantolinna (38) were well set with Hampshire 114-1 against Somerset at Hursley Park when play was abandoned through rain after only 18 overs.
Weather hit Hampshire consequently trail Somerset in the group table and must beat Devon to make the next phase.
