Tom South hit an unbeaten 36 to guide the Hampshire Academy to a nervy five-wicket win over Surrey's YC at the LSE Ground in New Malden.
Thirty-two wickets had fallen by stumps on the second day - the Academy needing another 52 runs to win in their second innings with eight wickets in hand.
When Hampshire lost two more early wickets to fall to 78-5, the outcome was in the balance, but Old Netley & Highfield raised South and Dom Kelly got the 30 runs the Academy required for victory.
Surrey, last season's ECB U17 County Champions, appeared to be headed for a sizeable total at 152-3 (Lawes 64, Geddes 55), but astonishingly lost their last seven wickets for 31 runs - five of them to the off-spin of Tom Prest (5-11) - and were all out for 183.
The bizarre fall of wickets continued as Hampshire sank to 9-4, only to be revived by Tom South (55). They were eventually dismissed for 166, with Sean Hunt taking 4-39.
But Surrey, just 17 runs in credit on first innings, were then shot out for 90 - three wickets each for South Wilts' Josh Croom and Prest - leaving Hampshire a victory target of 107.
They were 55-2 (Prest 32) at stumps, still needing 52 runs to win. But they got there in the end ...
