RICHARD Willcock led the way with a superb 136 as Hook and Newnham Basics enjoyed a run feast on the Isle of Wight scoring 337-9 at Steephill on their way to a 182-run Southern Premier League Division One victory over Ventnor.
The islanders were bowled out for 155 in the 30th over, as Shane Brewer returned excellent figures of 6-26.
It was a pleasing return for Hook, who left their North Hampshire headquarters at the break of dawn to catch the 7am car ferry to the Island and had to fork out £500 for the trip.
Opener Willcock, pictured, led the way with a boundary laden maiden SPL hundred, being well supported by Josh Buckingham (25), Matt Love (23), Alex Brown (31) and an unbeaten 54 from Rhodes Franklin, who has spent the past winter playing in Australia.
The home reply started badly as Brewer and Ben Peart took early wickets.
Martin Blackman (31) and Chris Russell (71) looked to have stopped the rot, but Brewer removed Blackman and also skipper Russell.
Brewer and Franklin (2-15) then wiped out the tail, as Ventnor fell well short of their target.
* It turned out a superb day or the Willcocks family as younger son Nick hit 130 for Old Basing, who chased down 255-3 to beat Locks Heath in a Hampshire League County Division 2 match at Warsash Road. He hit four sixes and 14 fours, sending father Bob delving into his winter fuel allowance to buy a double round of celebratory drinks. A happy hour indeed !
