South Wilts will need to play like Wimbledon champions if they are to make any impression in Sunday’s ECB NatWest Club t20 regional finals.
Not since Bournemouth lifted the trophy at Derby under the gaze of the Sky Sports cameras in 2009 has a team from the Southern Electric Premier League won a single tie in the national rounds.
And South Wilts – minus quite a number of their regular Premier League side – will have to pull out all the stops.
They are paired against former national t20 champions Wimbledon at will play the tie in SW19’s plush Church Road headquarters, a six hit away from Centre Court.
If South Wilts – domestic Southern Electric winners for the past two seasons – win, they will play either East Grinstead or Blackheath, who are having a fine season both inside and out of Kent.
The regional winners will get home advantage in the Area finals, with the final at Cardiff’s SWALEC Stadium on September 1.
