Rowledge vet Chris Yates did his bit but was unable to spare Hampshire Seniors from a six-wicket defeat by Devon in their opening Sixties Championship group match at Bovey Tracey.
Yates top scored with 27, lifting Hampshire from a worrying 101-8 (Leon Nurse 25) to a competitive 151-9.
The left-armer then produced a miserly 3-21 return with the ball to reduce Devon to 19-4, but an unbeaten 72 by skipper Nick Rogers turned the match on its head and gave the West Country side a six-wicket win.
Ironically, two seasons ago Rogers suffered a cardiac arrest on the boundary at Hampshire Hogs, the Seniors' thoughtful purchase of a defibrillator saving his life. He is now back playing regularly, chairing the Devon Premier League – and winning Sixties games for his county !
Hampshire’s next match is against Gloucestershire at Hursley Park on Tuesday, 1pm.
