BASHLEY (RYDAL) MAKE CAPTAINCY APPOINTMENT

29/5/2015

SIMON Watkins is set to skipper Southern Electric Premier League Bashley (Rydal) for the rest of the season.
Watkins deputised after Richard Morris had announced he would be relinquishing the role due to increased work commitments earlier this month, writes Andy Mitchell of the Bournemouth Echo.
He led Bashley to a three-wicket win over neighbours Lymington in his first game and the club’s committee subsequently asked him to stay on.
As Watkins has a number of prior engagements, Bashley will also seek to appoint a vice-captain to stand in when he is away.
Opening batsman Michael Porter, 20, is the hot tip to be Watkins' deputy.
Watkins, who led Bashley in today's Premier Division visit to Ventnor, captained Bournemouth in 2011.
Southern Premier League Young Cricketer of the Year in 2009, he has also played for Hampshire Academy and Dorset.
His former Bournemouth teammate Chris Ridley has joined the BCG, having played for Ventnor last season.
His arrival will put pressure on newly arrived Tom Jacques for the wicket-keeping spot.
* Bashley trio Michael Porter, Sam Thomson and Luke Webb will join Lymington left-arm spin all-rounder Darren Cowley in the Dorset squad for Sunday's Minor Counties Championship t20 regional day at Exmouth.
