DASHING DARREN SENDS BURRIDGE TO THE BOTTOM

3/6/2015

Evergreen Darren Cowley rolled back the years with a timely 68 in Lymington’s six-wicket home success over strugglers Burridge, who lie bottom of the ECB Southern Electric Premier Division pile at the end of the first batch of 50-over pennant games.
Lymington were chasing a modest total of 170 but found runs hard to come by following the early dismissals of openers Ryan Scott (21) and Cameron Grierson (21), writes Andy Mitchell, Bournemouth Echo.
The hosts had used up more than half their overs when Felix Ambrose was caught for just three runs from the delivery of Dan Stancliffe (2-22) with their score on a concerning 68-3.
But with matters in the balance, Cowley joined forces with Lewis McManus (50) to forge a fourth-wicket century partnership and Simon Beetham’s men surpassed their total with more than three overs to spare.
Beetham’s decision to put Burridge in to bat immediately reaped rewards with Ed Freeman (2-25) and Matt Metcalfe (2-25) ripping through the top of the order to leave the visitors floundering on 45-4, including Hampshire’s Joe Gatting for 18
South African Geoff Dods (57) and skipper Richard Ankers (26) briefly arrested the slump but with Beetham (2-34) helping to tidy up the tail, Lymington were in a strong position when they headed to the crease.
