ORGAN RETURN MUSIC TO ACADEMY EARS ... WESTHORPE FIT

27/6/2015

Five wins from the last six matches have propelled the Hampshire Academy into second place in the Premier Division table behind South Wilts, whom they visit next Saturday.
Bobby Parks takes his aspiring young side to Winchester’s tree lined Green Jackets Ground to play enigmatic St Cross Symondians, who tend to put bat to ball in twenty20 style, despite the Time element nature of the game.
With 396 runs to his credit, left-hand opener Ben Duggan is in particularly good form for the Academy, while well again Brad Taylor has scored five half-century-plus scores in his last seven knocks.
Durham University all-rounder Jack Wood plays and will beef up the seam attack, while Zac Organ’s return from Canford will provide a three-line spin attack.
Academy: Weatherley, Duggan, Alsop, Taylor, Gorvin, Goodwin, Organ, Crane, Wood, Murray, Barber.
Left-hander Neil Westhorpe is expected to resume his middle-order batting role for Ventnor, despite being forced to retire hurt with a forearm injury against the Academy last week.
Westhorpe thought he might have broken his arm after being struck by teenager Jake Goodwin’s potential hat-trick ball, but X-rays revealed only bruising.
Bottom-of-the-table Ventnor have fingers crossed that Tom Friend’s transfer from Surrey Championship club Weybridge will have cleared to enable the all-rounder to return against Lymington, who visit Newclose.
Opener Jake George will look back fondly on the experiences of playing at Lord’s this week for Cardiff in a Billy Root dominated MCCU final against Leeds & Bradford.
George made 40 for Cardiff, but Root’s blistering 139, which contained nine sixes and 11 fours, effectively made it a no-contest in favour of the Yorkshire students.  Billy Root is the sibling brother of Yorkshire and England star Joe Root.
Lymington hope Victorian Ben Ashkenazi will be fit enough to bowl following a side strain.  Matt Metcalfe is in prime form with the ball after routing Havant with an all-time low 50 last week.  He took 8-27.
Ventnor: Holmes, Snell, Bartlett, Willis, H Calloway. Friend, C Calloway, Horton, George, Westhorpe, Corbin, Cheek.
Lymington: Beetham, Rogers, Hand, Scott, McManus, Grierson, Ellis, Metcalfe, Ashkenazi, Jennings; Freeman.
