James Taylor whetted his appetite for the Sydenhams Wessex Football League presentation dinner by mauling the Basingstoke & North Hants IIs attack for his second Southern Electric Premier League Division 3 century of the season for Totton & Eling II at Southern Gardens.
Unable to travel to May’s Bounty for the first team fixture between the clubs, Taylor cracked 117 and sdhared a hefty partnership with Adam Carty (90) as the Eels ran up 285-6. Taylor’s work hadn’t finished there as he later took 5-41 to drop Basingstoke to 198 all out.
Rob Pittman made 108 in South Wilts’ 260, but was gazumped by Gosport Borough’s Australian import Balke Maher, whose unbeaten century for the visitors home by five wickets.
Simon Williams and Ed Boyd shared a century opening partnership as Trojans posted 282-7 to beat Alton II (238-8) by 44 runs, while Hawkeye inventor Paul Hawkins hit an unbeaten 72 as St Cross Symondians II won by seven wickets chasing down Havant II’s 2205, teenager Bobby Dyer (68) and Fergus Haycock (59) adding a century-plus stand to rescue Havant.
Waterlooville’s 237 was far too many for Lymington II, who were dismissed for 144, with super Sam Hillman taking 4-23 and Archie Reynolds returning 3-21.
