Andover’s visit to Southern Gardens has the look of an old boys reunion, with several ex-Totton & Eling players in the Lion’s Premier Division 1 line-up.
Former skipper Dave Taylor and the Augustus brothers are set to return the their old haunts.
Taylor’s return come on the back of a remarkable 172 not out, which earned Andover an improbable victory at Liphook last week – the burly left-hander rescuing his side from 117-8 and hitting 14 sixes on the way to securing a one-wicket win with a six off the last ball.
Namesake James Taylor also made an impressive start to the season, hitting a century in Totton’s second team defeat by Trojans.
Totton & Eling: Dibden, Arnold, Fletcher, James Taylor, Beresford, Peruzi, Metcalfe, Blake, Mooney, Ethan Taylor, Hamid
Andover: Mike Adams, Ali Hooper, Darron Augustus, Will Arnold, Glyn Treagus, Dave Taylor, Max Souter, Matt Knight, Matt Hooper, Dylan Augustus, Danny Foy.
New Milton made an impressive start, comfortably beating newly promoted Calmore Sports by 111 runs.
They bring in Ben Lawes for the potentially testing visit to Hartley Wintney, who lost a close run opener to Basingstoke & North Hants, but who nonetheless boast a powerful batting line-up.
New Milton: R Beck, L Beck, J Park, N Park, J Haggaty, D Loader, T Edwards, G Watts, N Elliott, N Gargaro, B Lawes.
Skipper Mark Lavelle has given his underperforming Calmore Sports side a vote of confidence on the eve of Bournemouth’s visit to Loperwood Park.
Calmore were skittled for a meagre 61 by New Milton on their Premier 1 return
Lavelle said: “We know where we went wrong against New Milton and have been working hard to put things right. It was an eye opener for us and we’ll be better as a team for the experiences of playing against a quality SPL1 side like New Milton.
“Our bowling and fielding was excellent but, as a team, we’ve got to learn to put both disciplines together.”
Bournemouth similarly performance poorly in their curtain raiser against Hook & Newnham Basics, but hope the registration of teenager New Zealand prospect Josh Finnie cane be completed to the Otago spin all-rounder can play tomorrow.
Calmore Sports: Lavelle, Vann, Johns, Pegler, Holloway, Perry, Proudley, Rose, West, Wright, Johnson.
