DORSET have signed Hampshire big-hitting batter Ross Whiteley (right) for the 2023 white-ball National Counties season. They believe Whiteley, who signed a three-year white-ball deal with Hampshire in 2021, will be a hugely valuable signing for their middle order and drive the county on to success, initially in the T20, which is scheduled to begin with a double header against Herefordshire at Sherborne School on Sunday, 11am. Bournemouth's Luke Webb, reappointed Dorset skipper, believes Whiteley’s arrival can drive the county on to T20 success after blossoming in the format in recent years. Webb said: “We’ve probably been about as successful as you can be in Twenty20 cricket without lifting the trophy." He is one of four Bournemouth players chosen alongside Oli Breckon, Rob 'Plymouth' Pack and teenage spin all-rounder Conor Smith. Dorset also include the Eckland brothers Alex and Joseph, who will keep wicket. Dorset team v Herefordshire is: Luke Webb, Sam Young, Joseph Eckland, David Scott, Ross Whiteley, Alex Eckland, Jacob Gordon, Conor Smith, Rob Pack, Oli Breckon and Ben Ladd-Gibbon. Wiltshire's T20 against Devon, due to be played at South Wilts, and the Falkland tie featuring Berkshire and Wales MC have been postponed due to waterlogged pitches. |
