FORMER HAMPSHIRE CRICKETER IS A 2017 HCL AWARD WINNER

The Hampshire Cricket League has announced the names of the 23 clubs and the 48 prize winning cricketers who will be attending next month’s two presentation dinner functions at the Southampton Novotel and Basingstoke Apollo.
Portsmouth & Southsea pair Matt Benfield (670 runs) and Keiron Dunstan (31 wickets) landed the main individual prizes and helped their club win the County 1 title in the process.
Sway’s Tim Noble was top County 2 batsman, with 743 runs, while Matt Scorey of Compton & Chandler’s Ford took 30 wickets to head the bowling charts.
South Wilts’ teenager Ben Fisher featured in a 28-wicket three-way tie for the County 3 North bowling prize.
Undoubtedly the best known name in the entire winners list is former Hampshire all-rounder Lawrie Prittipaul who, playing with his mates for Servicemaster at the Portsmouth Rugby Camp every other Saturday, made 546 runs to win the County 3 South award.
Prittipaul, now 38, played 23 times for Hampshire between 2000 and 2004, making a career-best 152 against Derbyshire at Northlands Road.
Another familiar face at the presentation dinners will be Trojans’ Simon Williams, who plundered 800 runs for the Stoneham club’s third team, so he could spend the season playing alongside his teenage son Zac.
Williams’ run tally didn’t, though, win Trojans any medals. Dinton II won North West 3.
Twyford’s 37-wicket Tom Ducker and teenager Beaulieu all-rounder Matt Pooley, with 572 runs, will be picking up performance awards for the second season running.

WELLOW & PLAITFORD : PHOENIX FROM THE ASHES

3/10/2017

Wellow & Plaitford continue to be the Phoenix from the Ashes of Hampshire League cricket.
Since their resurrection two seasons ago, they've celebrated championships, winning all nine matches this season and cruising a second consecutive regional division title.
They won all nine matches, with star man Harry Draycott adding 12 wickets to the 325 runs he scored with the bat.
He twice made hundreds, with Whiteparish II (133) and Littleton & West Hill (104) on the receiving end.
James Sampson (229 runs) and Lee Palmer (148) provided Draycott with useful support, while Ollie White's 14 wicket haul included a 5-27 return against Winterbourne.

Langley Manor won 12 of their 13 matches to carry off the County Division 4 West title, finishing five points ahead of runners-up Verwood, who inflicted their only defeat of the season in the penultimate round of fixtures.
The solitary defeat put pressure on the Manor to win their final game against Ellingham II, who they crushed by nine wickets.
Predictably, there were some tight ones along the way, with Langley Manor scoring seven runs off the last two balls to pip Winterbourne by one wicket and the side recovering from 61-5 to chase down Southampton Travellers' 146.
Batsman/wicketkeeper James Purnell had a fine season with bat and gloves, scoring two centuries amid his 353-run aggregate and snapping up 18 victims behind the stumps. Kevin Cresswell (387) and Luke Jerram (296) also prospered with the bat, while Jackson Sheppard (21), Jamie Brown (18) and Dylan Hatton (15) took a lion's share of the wickets.
