Gosport Borough teenager Jacob Harris made up for lost time with a decisive bowling performance as his adopted Australian club, Warrion celebrated their first win of the season in Victoria's Colac & District Cricket League.
The 18-year old all-rounder took three top order wickets as opponents Irrewarra crashed to 31-5 as Warrion played their first match after four washed out Saturdays.
He took 3-32 in ten overs before Irrewarra recovered to post 134-9 - a target Warrion polished off for the loss of five wickets, Harris making a handy 22 batting three.

Marc Burton and Sam Waters took 60 wickets between them as Farley literally bowled over most of their opponents on the way to lifting the Hampshire League County Division 4 West championship.
Burton's 35-wicket haul was the best in CD4W, while Waters, with 25 victims, provided perfect support. Five other bowlers took more than ten wickets each.
Twelve of Farley's 14 wins came after they had bowled first - and on seven occasions opposing teams were shot out for less than 100.
Chasing low totals meant there weren't so many opportunities for batsmen to shine, but Ramesh Gurung led the way with 396 runs, including four half-centuries and a strike rate over 100.
It was part of very successful season for the club with the Farley 2nd team also being promoted and the revived midweek side finishing runners-up in the Salisbury and District League and reaching the cup final.

Portsmouth & Southsea II won all 13 matches as they swept all before them in County 4 South.
There were some pretty heavy victories as well – Solent Rangers being beaten by 247 runs, Purbrook by 184 runs, Sarisbury Athletic by 173 and Bedhampton by 147 runs.
Opening pair Steve Clements and Shaun Briggs each scored in excess of 430, Briggs taking 29 runs off am over in one particular game.
Qaiser Naveed didn’t hang around once he arrived at the crease, on five separate occasions getting off the mark with a six.  He was also leading wicket taker, with 13 poles.
County Division 4 South cricket hasn’t seen the last of P & S as the club’s third team, promoted as Regional SE1 runners-up, will replace the seconds in 2020.

WHERWELL SNATCH CD 4 NORTH TITLE IN FINAL DAY DRAMA

There needed to be a dramatic turnaround on the final day of the season if Wherwell were to snatch the County 4 North title from Chawton’s grasp.
Chawton were top and all they had to do was beat Alton third’s, the team from barely a mile down the road.   They didn’t. Chawton were bowled out for 117 and lost by seven wickets.
Cue celebrations at Wherwell, who crushed Ampfield by 157 runs to grab the title by 11 points.
Chawton had comprehensively beaten Wherwell on the opening day of the season. All out 69 and beaten in 12 overs. The omens didn’t look good.
But seven days later, Oliver Emslie hit a six to win off the last ball at Longparish – and Wherwell were up and running.
They didn’t look back, sweeping to 11 successive wins, with five batsmen scoring over 380 runs, including Matt Cutts (559) and Ollie Emslie, who complimented his 531 runs with 30 wickets – a return which won the all-rounder the CD4 North bowling award.
Robbie Skeates made 446 runs, Alex Gladwyn 383, Mike Cutts 382, while Harry Trebert’s 25 victims included three separate six-wicket hauls.
Wherwell finished third in County 4 North in 2018, having almost gone under 12 months earlier.
But the glue that held everyone together this season was their fines system, which made them a closer knit team and kept  morale high throughout the long periods of fielding.

TEENAGE GOSPORT ALL-ROUNDER FRUSTRATED BY AUSSIE RAIN

6/11/2019

Picture
Talented Gosport Borough teenager Jacob Harris is way too young to have even heard of the Seventies rock band Supertramp let alone their mega track It's raining again - but, even if he has, there's a pretty fair chance he won't be humming the 1982 best seller as he goes about his daily work as a trainee lumberjack in the Victorian country outback.
Quite simply, it just hasn't stopped raining since he touched down in Melbourne five weeks ago - the previously parched state of Victoria having suffered from serious drought .. until he arrived !
Jacob has not been able to face or bowl a single ball for the past three weekends as all cricket in the agricultural country town of Colac has been washed out.
"It's all been very frustrating," said the 18-year old all-rounder, who did morning and teatime newspaper rounds to help offset his air fare to  Melbourne
"It's sunny all week, but directly the weekends come along, down comes the rain. Even when we went to play a T20 last night it bucketed down. We got the first innings in - and that was that !
"For it to continually happen is very disappointing. I really want to get going."
Harris hit three centuries among his 566 runs for Gosport Borough this summer, alongside taking 33 wickets for the third placed County Division One club.  If the Hampshire League had a Young Player award, he would have been top of the list to win it ...

What a season its been for Bashley (Rydal) !  They 1st XI won by ECB Southern Premier League for the first time, the second team was crowned Division 3 champions and the third’s took the Hampshire League County Division 3 South title. A unique treble in Hampshire recreational cricket.
They won their opening four matches, then lost twice in quick succession to Hayling Island and Shanklin before cruising through July and August unbeaten to finish 20 points clear of Shanklin.
It is always good to have a mix of youth and experience in a side and in Chris Gates and Graham Pardey they boasted two players with over 500 Bashley appearances under their belts. Being a 3rd XI, the team changed consistently and some 26 different players did their bit towards the championship cause.
Nine different batsmen made 50s and two – Tom Saunders (v Ventnor II) and former Essex captain Paul Prichard (in the title clinching win at Hythe & Dibden II) – made hundreds.  Saif Ackakzai (460), Saunders (372) and Sam Scott (312 and 14 wickets) caught the eye, while Tom Harris (19 wickets), Toby Mills (`8) and 13-year old Louis Prichard (17) were the leading wicket takers.

Mike Pollard, with 411 runs, was ever consistent with the bat, while Tony Rolfe scored 340 and Rob Pfeiffer 332.

COMPTON CD 2 TITLE HOPES LEFT RIDING ON FINAL MATCH

Compton & Chandler's Ford pictured after their dramatic finale to the 2019 County Division 2 championship race.
Compton & Chandler’s Ford’s Hampshire League County Division 2 championship triumph could hardly have been more dramatic.  Everything hinged on the outcome of the final match of the season against title rivals Portsmouth. To be more precise, it was still in the balance when the last over began on Southsea seafront.
Chasing Portsmouth’s 225-4, CCF were in cruise mode when Andy Gorty (77) and Rhys Willmott (49) were together.  Then came a wobble. With ten to win off the last over, Liam Palmer (34) was run out.  Ten off five balls.  No sweat for Scott Spearing. A four over mid-on, then a massive six clean over the St Helen’s pavilion.  A five-wicket win. All settled.
By then, Compton had said a fond farewell to Australian teenager Jack Riding, who plundered 801 runs in 13 knocks.  The young Victorian, from the gold mining town of Ballarat who plays his Grade cricket in Geelong, hit centuries against Sarisbury Athletic, Ferndown Wayfarers and East Woodhay, besides making six more scores between 50 and 83.
Riding was at the forefront of things as CCF sped to ten straight wins (making it 14 on the trot since the end of 2018) until an early August blip (back to back losses to Odiham & Greywell and Winton) set up that winner take all finish against Portsmouth.
Overall, there were fine all-round contributions from Andy Gorty (447 runs and 20 wickets) and Alex Spearing, who hit three 50s and produced the season’s best bowling figures, a 5-37 return against Bramshaw.   Mat Scorey took 26 wickets and Ash Lovell 23.

PARLEY GO ONE BETTER AND WIN COUNTY DIVISION 1 TITLE

Runners-up to Hythe & Dibden in 2018, Parley emerged Hampshire League County Division 1 champions by a five-point margin from Hook & Newnham Basics II, one of the three sides to beat them.
Parley made a somewhat indifferent start, losing twice early on (to Hook and Bedhampton) before piecing together a run of nine wins in their next ten matches.
Lifting the Peter Faulkner Cup climaxed a trophy laden decade for Parley, who had previously achieved a staggering seven promotions in the ten years since joining Regional 4 South West back in 2009. Only on two occasions – in 2012 and 2015 – did they not climb the pyramid.
For the second year running, Ollie Green topped the CD1 bowling charts, taking 36 wickets (one more than in 2018) and also chipped in with 122 v relegated Ryde, against whom Sam Collins struck 122.  On six separate occasions Green took a wicket in his first over.
Collins, with 499 runs, skipper Alex Nippard (427) and Roshan Embalagama (410) were Parley’s lead run scorers.  Nippard nipped in with 20 victims and Jack Rowett 16.
