Fair Oak have been accepted back into the Southern Premier League this season on the strength of vastly improved 2015 pitch marks at their Lapstone Park ground.
Demoted twelve months earlier when marks were so low the ground lost its accreditation altogether, Oaks swept all before them in the Hampshire League last summer, winning every one of their 16 matches.
They took the County Division 1 title by storm and will return to Division 3 cricket in 2016.
Ed Kemp (683 runs) and Andy Mash (38 wickets) topped the CD1 batting and bowling charts, respectively.
2016 SPL3 skipper Tom Huckenhall (359) and Andy Sturman (342) provided the batting back-up, while all-round pair Abbas Assad (340 runs and 28 wickets) and Rhys Oxley (250 runs and 20 wickets) enjoyed fine seasons.
Fair Oak’s performances on the field came on the back of a lot of hard work to knock the ground back into shape.
Captain Mash, who took 38 wickets in Oak’s title triumph, said: I’m not too sure on the exact work that took place, but we brought in help from Ian Tulk (from the Ageas Bowl) while Tony Oxley returned to the area after two years working away in Belgium.
“These two were instrumental in helping the pitch get back to old ways.
“Even though we felt hard done by last year, we did concede that the pitch wasn’t up to previous Fair Oak pitch standards and with a lot of hard work from both Tulk and Oxley, plus further assistance from all club members, we are delighted with how the pitch performed and looked this past season.
“I think the evidence showed with the amount of runs scored on the Lapstone pitch. “Not only did it give all teams a great pitch to play on, it also gave our batsmen confidence that they may have lacked in the previous year.”
Once stumps were drawn on the 2015 season, the Hampshire Cricket Board’s accreditation team inspected Lapstone Park and provided a favourable report recommending Fair Oak’s re-admittance to the Premier League.
Fair Oak don’t intend to rest on their laurels from this summer’s successes when all four of their adult teams won promotion.
“The on-going plans with the pitch continue so that we can keep up and improve on the good standards we set this season,” added Mash, who is pictured with the County 1 trophy.
“We were delighted only see one player leave last season - it could easily have been a fair few more - with the calibre of our players attracting interest from other local clubs.
“The vast majority of our team consisted of Fair Oak players that have come through the youth setup at the club, and we are all very proud of that.
“Numerous games last summer, ten out of the 11 players had come through the youth teams.”

Ryde’s elevation into Southern Electric Premier League next season is seen as a definite boost for Isle of Wight cricket, giving Vectis a second club in the higher echelons of the county pyramid.
They finished a comfortable second behind unbeaten County Division 1 winners, Fair Oak and, with their well appointed ground at Hardings Shute getting the nod from the Hampshire Cricket Board’s accreditation gurus, will take their place in Division 3 in 2016.
Ryde won 12 of their 15 matches, with hard hitting Chichester University batsman Josh Procter smashing over 500 runs, including a century and four more fifty-plus scores.
Left-handed opening Ben Wadmore (475) and Cameron Mitchell (385) providing regular support for all-rounders Stuart Robertson and Laurence Tolfrey, who often led from the front, scoring key runs and producing important performances with the ball.

FARLEY CAPTAIN MAKES HCL's THIRD HIGHEST RUN TALLY

Run happy Farley batsman Mike Covill (pictured by Dave Cavanagh) had the Hampshire League statisticians delving through the archives to check if his 1,110-run tally last season was an all-time record.  It turns out he was the third highest of nine batsmen in 40-plus years to score over 1,000 league runs.  Covill, who captains the Salisbury-based club, scored his 1,110 runs at an average of 74, making four centuries – including a personal best 210 against Sway – and six scores of fifty or more.  Covill hit 147 fours – so 588 runs in boundaries – but did not pick up a Regional 1 West championship winners medal. Farley lost their end-of-season crunch match against Winton, so have been promoted into County 4 North as runners-up to the Bournemouth club.

A personal best 239 not out against Basingstoke & North Hants III in August helped Longparish opener Will de Cani finish the season with 792 runs and win the Hampshire League County Division 2 batting award.   The 20-year old trainee town planner is only the second Longparish cricketer, alongside the long since retired Dennis Luff, to hit double century.  With de Cani, pictured, available all summer and several promising youngsters beginning to blossom, LP could be among the CD2 challengers this season.

TULK DYNASTY INTO ITS THIRD GENERATION

The Tulk dynasty in Southampton club cricket circles is into its third generation.
Sixty seasons after Derek Tulk made his solitary County Championship appearance against Tom Graveney’s Gloucestershire at Northlands Road, 16-year old grandson Harry celebrated a maiden century for the family club, Old Tauntonians & Romsey.
He made a career-best 107 in OTs’ win over Fareham & Crofton – his maiden ton setting up a 49-run for the County Division 1 newcomers.
Appropriately Derek, a fine exponent of seam and off-spin bowling in the dominant Old Tauntonians’ side of the Seventies, was on hand to buy his grandson the celebratory jug !
Harry is the teenage son of left-hander Stuart Tulk and nephew Ian, who both played in the OTs side which won the old Southern League title back in 1989.
