Run happy Farley batsman Mike Covill (pictured by Dave Cavanagh) had the Hampshire League statisticians delving through the archives to check if his 1,110-run tally last season was an all-time record. It turns out he was the third highest of nine batsmen in 40-plus years to score over 1,000 league runs. Covill, who captains the Salisbury-based club, scored his 1,110 runs at an average of 74, making four centuries – including a personal best 210 against Sway – and six scores of fifty or more. Covill hit 147 fours – so 588 runs in boundaries – but did not pick up a Regional 1 West championship winners medal. Farley lost their end-of-season crunch match against Winton, so have been promoted into County 4 North as runners-up to the Bournemouth club. |
